Regular flooding of the road and excessive speeds
Reported via desktop in the Surface water on Highway category anonymously at 13:44, Mon 25 January 2021
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 349758.
This is a problem that occurs every time we have heavy rain .The drain pops open in a dangerous manner and the road is flooded .Every year ,the drain is cordoned off narrowing the road and signs are put out to slow traffic down .It is very dangerous for residents along this stretch of road at this point as visibility along Dunstable Rd is at its most limited through the village of Studham .Yet the speed limit here is at 40 mph along this stretch whereas throughout the rest of this same road through the village ,it is either 30 mph or 20 mph Reducing the speed limit in line with the rest of the stretch of the road would greatly improve safety as the flooding occurs regularly every year and has never been solved

Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. Requests for speed limit changes/traffic calming will be reviewed and prioritised accordingly against all other requests across the county. We do not alter speed limits based on the perception of an issue. Requests will be reviewed based on a number of factors including collision history and independent traffic volume and speed counts over a 7 day, 24 hour period, along with meeting suitability with DfT guidance and prioritised accordingly. Should the request meet all the criteria it may be added to the Capital Works Programme for future years.

As the fundamental issue is in regards to flooding, please investigate and prioritise as appropriate. We have no plans to look at the speed limit at this moment in time.
