Cars parking on the verge, obscuring the view out the junction.

Reported via mobile in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 14:22, Friday 29 January 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 350237.

This goes hand in hand with the issue I reported on the 24/12/2020 with cars parking too close to the junction of Priory Gate. The yellow paint on my grass makes me think this is being addressed. Cars are parking on Ampthill Road, usually on the verge, but often fully in the road. This means that when cars are trying to pull out of Priory Gate, they can’t see cars coming off the roundabout, because of the parked cars. Drivers are therefor having to pull out into Ampthill Road blind. This has been more an issue for a while, but over the last 9 months more so as more people seek out their allowed exercise, using the Campton Plantation. It’s also more an issue at weekends.

  • Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. Your request has been passed to our Traffic Management Team for further investigation. They will inspect the area, look at existing records and investigate the feasibility of the request. They may need to carry out new surveys and consult local Councils or other bodies. They will consider existing budgets and other requests before deciding on the best course of action. All cases vary but this work can often take 4 or more weeks to complete. Please contact us 0300 300 8049 if you would like more information on the progress of this report.

This appears to be a request for DYLs along Ampthill Rd and St the junction with Priory Gate?

  • Highways Officers have conducted a site investigation and are now in the process of reviewing what measures should be progressed to improve safety at this location. Any new measures will need to be included in a formal consultation to make a change to the Traffic Regulation Orders for that area. The whole process can be quite lengthy, but we shall provide a further update when more information is known. Thank you once again for your feedback.

  • Good morning,

With consultation now closed a month, I was wondering what the update is. The issue remains and only yesterday I returned home to find a car in the junction, causing another near miss as a resident tried to exit the estate on the wrong side of the road.
