Safety fence fallen

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 11:49, Tuesday 4 May 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 355717.

Red safety fence has fallen in the wind. The fence was up to protect the drainage stream that follows here but has fallen over which is making the area a hazard. Would somebody be able to come and reinstate the fence. It is on ampthill road about a quarter of the way up by the garage on the right had side if travelling from ampthill

Updates

  • Resident has called in (Mr), he is reporting that the red plastic barriers that were placed around this drainage ditch/hole keep blowing down, the ditch is now full with 7-8 foot of water, hazard if a child falls in, resident is requesting barriers be permanently set around this ditch please for safety purposes, this may need investigating sooner rather than later due to the water hazard, resident was told that the railings would be fitted last Monday? Advised no notes to state this on this report? I will email this over to the Team for advice on whether or not this may be an emergency? This report was marked for Gareth Hughes I suspect due to the barriers being set in place? However I have selected the Team to look into the matter please, I hope that this is ok? The drain is dealt with by the neighbours as it is their responsibility due to the drain being an "Awarded Drain", main request here is for Railings around the drain which has a 7-8 foot drop in ditch , not draining away, blocked regularly therefore potential hazard to small children. Resident is also sending in photos which I will forward.

  • Customer emailed with the following:

With reference to our previous correspondence, I am conscious that the permanent barriers have still not been built. As discussed, it was expected this to have been completed by mid-June. There has also been no update on your website.

Can the resident please be contacted to advise further?

  • resident address where the damages is :37a Ampthill Road,Flitwick,Beds,MK45 1AZ.

Customer email:I refer to your email and the update online. The update refers to “damage”. If I’m honest, I have absolutely no idea what they are referring to. The issue at hand relates to the lack of safety barriers between the path and the 8ft drop next to it.

As already stated, there are barriers on the other side of the road and all I ask is for similar barriers to be added on my side of the road.

Please will someone take a hold of this matter at hand and deal with it. This is taking far too long for what should be a very simple matter to resolve.

    I await your comments.

Please can updates pe provided so we can inform the customer or please provide updates directly to customer.
    Thank you!
