Yellow lines
Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 12:42, Mon 7 June 2021
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 357201.
Request for yellow lines on High Street at the junction with Parachute Grove. It is currently very dangerous and difficult to pull out of Parachute Grove as cars can park right up to the junction which is making the visibility here very poor. There have already been near misses with vehicles and pedestrians. It is also very close to a pedestrian crossing

Thank you for contacting us to request a parking restriction.
The issue of parking and how to deal with problems is often viewed differently and there may not be a simple answer to a problem, especially where demand outweighs available road space. Parking restrictions will only be introduced where there is a clear need, with priority given to those relating to road safety. Central Bedfordshire Council currently reviews new parking restriction requests on a holistic basis, taking the wider area into account. Reacting to one concern in an isolated area can potentially move the problem to another area.
You may wish to contact your local parish or town council in the first instance as they will need to support any request for further consideration to be given. Other factors considered when assessing requests are:
accessibility
the possibility of displacing the parking problem to another street
how many people support or do not support the request.
Where a request is confirmed and justified by Officers and there is enough local support, they may be included in a future consultation to make a change to the Traffic Regulation Orders for that area. The whole process can be quite lengthy, and it can take up to 18 months to introduce any new parking restrictions.State changed to: No further action

We would recommend that residents speak with their local councillors to determine whether they are in agreement with the installation of double yellow lines along Henlow High Street. Also, there are several private roads (including Parachute Grove) where we would not be able to install lines as these roads are not adopted by Central Bedfordshire Council. As mentioned previously, parking is a difficult issue and we cannot install restrictions at one road without considering the impact on the wider area. Owing to the nature of the High Street, parking is required for residents and those who wish to visit the area. By installing double yellow lines along the road, this could encourage cars to park in residental roads or cul-de-sacs which would cause more issues. We recommend that you discuss the wider issue of parking with the local Councillors to better understand their view on the installing new parking restrictions on the main High Street in Henlow.
