Cars and buses etc speed down Ivel way constantly and the residents are concerned for safety. There have been many near misses due to speeding and would like something that can slow traffic on this road.

Thank you for contacting us in relation to Ivel Way in Flitwick.
We receive many requests for traffic calming measures which far outweigh the limited funding available for these schemes. When decisions are made on how our budget is spent to improve the road network, the most serious issues and safety concerns must be prioritised. Our funds are targeted at areas with a history of speed-related collisions and measures will only be introduced at locations where there is an identifiable problem and are chosen for further consideration based on the likelihood of road safety improvements.
When speed data demonstrates excessive speeds and there is a history of collisions, we would consider a request in more detail to determine whether traffic calming measures would improve safety.
We do not consider that traffic calming is necessary at Ivel Way at this time. Ivel Way is a residential road similar to numerous roads across the region, with the majority of car drivers travelling at appropriate speeds. Unfortunately, we are unable to justify the cost of installing traffic calming features to prevent a small minority of drivers travelling at excessive speeds. Thank you for your feedback
