Traffic pollution and proposed double yellow lines

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 13:47, Wednesday 23 June 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 358278.

I have just received a public notice of a proposal for double yellow lines to be placed along either side of the entrances/exits for the junction of Lovers walk and Richard Street. These are designated directly outside our terraced property. We have a situation of care and rely on health professionals visiting day and night, where will they park if these lines are put in place? Where will we and other residents of Richard Street park? We have until the 14th July 21 to put in our comments. I have lived here for 57 years and there has never been any need for such intervention. We have always relied on neighbourly understanding and cooperation so why the sudden change? Our street is suffering with too much traffic as it all tries to avoid the town centre. We are in a red area regarding traffic pollution and we have had to have an air filter installed to keep the air clear enough for someone who is ill in this house. The yellow lines will only serve to encourage more traffic as it will create more room for two way traffic to flow. I am not in favour of these yellow lines and challenge the previous anonymous post, who may not actually be a resident of this street. While i understand the difficulties that sometimes occur with the parking at these junctions, it is by no means a regular problem and these plans will make life even more difficult for us. WE NEED A TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ONE WAY) IN THIS WHOLE RESIDENTIAL AREA THAT WILL PREVENT THE TOWN CENTRE TRAFFIC FROM PASSING STRAIGHT THROUGH.
