Broadmead to Lichfield

Reported via desktop in the Road Surface category anonymously at 00:37, Thu 24 June 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 358307.

I am reporting the presence of speeding traffic up to 60 mph at any time of the day or night along the STRAIGHT part of Dells Lane from Broadmead to Lichfield. An accident or fatality is waiting to happen if any vehicle pulls out of one of the roads or closes between the points mentioned. Some speeding squares would slow the traffic down to 30 mph and therefore avoid any accidents.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting us in relation to Dells Lane in Biggleswade. We receive many requests for traffic calming measures which far outweigh the limited funding available for these schemes. When decisions are made on how our budget is spent to improve the road network, the most serious issues and safety concerns must be prioritised. Our funds are targeted at areas with a history of speed-related collisions and measures will only be introduced at locations where there is an identifiable problem and are chosen for further consideration based on the likelihood of road safety improvements. When speed data demonstrates excessive speeds and there is a history of collisions, we would consider a request in more detail to determine whether traffic calming measures would improve safety.
With this in mind, we will periodically monitor driver behaviour along Dells Lane to determine whether this area should be reviewed further. Thank you for your feedback
