Bedford Road, around Sollars Way and Duck End Close

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 359990.
Unable to select a speeding option on here. We are extremely concerned about speeding vehicles entering and leaving the village down Bedford Road, especially past our house towards Vision Blinds. Despite the chicane and a radar speed warning sign when approaching the village, drivers are immediately accelerating to speeds up to 50mph. This is an accident waiting to happen. We have been told that you would not do anything about this until there is an accident/fatality. I hope this is not true. We would be very grateful if this speed problem could be looked into as a matter of urgency before someone's loved one is hurt or killed. Average speed cameras seem to work well in areas close to us. Could these be considered here please? I'm told I'm wasting my time contacting you. Please tell me I'm not. This is honestly worrying the residents down Bedford Road. It's a nightmare. I look forward to your reply and support in this matter. Thank you. Carolyn Bristow, 58 Bedford Road, Houghton Conquest

Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. Your request has been passed to our Traffic Management Team for further investigation. They will inspect the area, look at existing records and investigate the feasibility of the request. They may need to carry out new surveys and consult local Councils or other bodies. They will consider existing budgets and other requests before deciding on the best course of action. All cases vary but this work can often take 4 or more weeks to complete. Please contact us 0300 300 8049 if you would like more information on the progress of this report.

Thank you for contacting us in relation to Bedford Road in Houghton Conquest.
We receive many requests for traffic calming measures which unfortunately far outweigh the limited funding available. When decisions are made on how our budget is spent to improve the road network, the most serious issues and safety concerns must be prioritised, therefore our funds are targeted at areas with a history of speeding as well as speed-related collisions. Measures will only be considered and introduced at locations where there is an identifiable problem. We also check speed data history to determine whether cars are travelling in excess of speed limits.
When speed data demonstrates excessive speeds and there is a history of collisions, we would consider a request in more detail to determine whether traffic calming measures would improve safety.
We have checked collision history data held which shows that there have not been any reported accidents along this stretch of road in the past 3 years, however officers will visit the site periodically over the coming months to see whether further assessments are required. Thank you once again

Road visited, no speeding observed. Existing traffic calming in place - chichane, speed bumps. Parked cars also act to calm traffic. No further action at this time.
