Urgent Need for Speed Signs (Live)
Reported via desktop in the Signs category anonymously at 12:10, Mon 2 August 2021
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 360037.
This road is dangerous. Cars travel along here at the most insane speeds and it's shocking how fast they travel in a 30 in a village. Something needs to be done. If we can install a live speed sign, it might help?

Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. Your request has been passed to our Traffic Management Team for further investigation. They will inspect the area, look at existing records and investigate the feasibility of the request. They may need to carry out new surveys and consult local Councils or other bodies. They will consider existing budgets and other requests before deciding on the best course of action. All cases vary but this work can often take 4 or more weeks to complete. Please contact us 0300 300 8049 if you would like more information on the progress of this report.

Thank you for contacting us in relation to Silver End Road in Haynes.
We receive many requests for traffic calming measures which far outweigh the limited funding available for these schemes. When decisions are made on how our budget is spent to improve the road network, the most serious issues and safety concerns must be prioritised. Our funds are targeted at areas with a history of speed-related collisions and measures will only be introduced at locations where there is an identifiable problem and are chosen for further consideration based on the likelihood of road safety improvements.
When speed data demonstrates excessive speeds and there is a history of collisions, we would consider a request in more detail to determine whether traffic calming measures would improve safety.
We have checked our collision history records and there are no reported incidents over the past few years. Officers will visit the location discreetly over the coming months to observe the speeds that cars are travelling along Silver End Road to determine whether further assessment is required.
State changed to: No further action

Further to the previous update, we confirm that a recent speed count has been undertaken along Silver End Road, close to Foresters Close. The results of this speed surevy showed a mean speed of 23 and 25mph (north and south bound) over a 7 day period in June 2021, therefore no further action will be taken.
