Request for a pedestrian crossing

Reported via iOS in the Crossings and Beacons category anonymously at 07:32, Sat 21 August 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 360747.

Please can a request be made for a pedestrian crossing on Frenchs avenue. Its a wide road in a busy residential area and even though its a 20mph zone a lot of drivers do not take notice and drive at ridiculous speeds. This is right next to a park too and with a number of vehicles parked at the side of this, potentially obscuring visibility for children and drivers, it could result in someone being hit one day, likely a child. Please put some safety measures in place

  • Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. Your request has been passed to our Traffic Management Team for further investigation. They will inspect the area, look at existing records and investigate the feasibility of the request. They may need to carry out new surveys and consult local Councils or other bodies. They will consider existing budgets and other requests before deciding on the best course of action. All cases vary but this work can often take 4 or more weeks to complete. Please contact us 0300 300 8049 if you would like more information on the progress of this report.

  • Still open, via questionnaire, 08:03, Sat 18 September 2021

  • Thank you for noting your concerns and thoughts with regards to Frenchs Avenue.

We receive many requests for safety features such as formalised crossing points, which far outweigh the limited funding available for these schemes. Our funds are targeted at areas with a history of data that highlights a safety critical issue, and measures will only be introduced at locations where there is an identifiable problem, and will be chosen based on the likelihood of road safety improvements.

We note your request, but at this time you may wish to contact your local parish or town council in the first instance as they will need to support any request for further consideration to be given.

State changed to: No further action
