The Chilterns Pavings slabs

Reported via desktop in the Pavement and Cycle path category anonymously at 22:11, Saturday 9 October 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 362400.

All the foot paths within the Chilterns are laid with slabs that have so much grass growing you can’t push a wheel chair or pram without getting stuck or tripping. The slabs are being pushed up by tree roots in some areas creating a trip hazard. Entire lot needs treatment or replacing.

  • Thank you for your Highways report.
Following you report we have carried out an inspection and raised an order to repair your identified issue and this has now been added to our programme of works.

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways

During a recent visit to The Chilterns I have sprayed up 4 seperate areas that are CAT 1 defects which need to be made safe as soon as possible. I have raised an order for this work to be undertaken. The order will see the paving slabs in the 4 areas to be taken up and replaced with tarmac.

I will raise a seperate order for a crew to come out to remove the weeds and apply weed killer to the area in your report. Please just bare in mind that this will be a lower priority over the pavement patching that needs to take place.

    State changed to: Action scheduled

After a member of staff looked into this area, they have discovered that it is private land that CBC does not inspect. In order to have your issue looked into further you will need to contact Land Registry on 0300 006 0411 to find who owns the footways.

Please be aware that my order for this defect has been cancelled.

State changed to: not the council's responsibility
