Thank you for contacting us regarding traffic in Henlow. We receive many requests for traffic calming measures which far outweigh the limited funding available for these schemes. When decisions are made on how our budget is spent to improve the road network, the most serious issues and safety concerns must be prioritised. Our funds are targeted at areas with a history of speed-related collisions and measures will only be introduced at locations where there is an identifiable problem and are chosen for further consideration based on the likelihood of road safety improvements.
When speed data demonstrates excessive speeds and there is a history of collisions, we would consider a request in more detail to determine whether traffic calming measures would improve safety. Unfortunately, we are unable to justify the cost of installing traffic calming features to prevent a small minority of drivers travelling at excessive speeds.
Traffic has increased across the region after the various lockdown measures during the pandemic and we are not able to control the level of motorists travelling through Henlow.
Thank you for your feedback
