Maulden Road Flitwick - from Gardeners Close to Kings Road

Reported via desktop in the Crossings category anonymously at 16:56, Thu 4 November 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 363400.

I wonder if you could look at the possibility of putting a controlled crossing on this section of road? With all the increase in traffic (I presume a lot of which comes from ampthill via Abbey Lane) this road is very busy all day long, but particularly in the mornings 8 - 9.30 and afternoon 3p.m. onwards and it is become very, very difficult to cross safely! A lot of the residents are older and cannot make a dash for it between cars. Some drivers very kindly pull up to let us across, but this in itself is dangerous. Would be grateful if you could look into this for us a...If I have not sent this to the right department, I would be grateful if you could pass it on for me. Thank you.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting us in relation to Maulden Road in Flitwick.

We receive many requests for new measures which far outweigh the limited funding available for these schemes. When decisions are made on how our budget is spent to improve the road network, the most serious safety issues are prioritised.

Maulden road is straight with good visibility and is within a 30mph speed limit and there have been no reported pedestrian incidents over the past 3 years. Also, there is not likely to be a very high level of pedestrians crossing the road at a particular point. We therefore do not consider that a controlled pedestrain crossing point is required at this time.

State changed to: No further action
