School lane concerns

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 363596.
The problem is school lane southill, which lies in a conservation area. The verges in the lane are being completely trashed by big vehicles trying to pass each other. The problem was less when the school was closed during covid. we have larges buses bringing the children. also when a household has a parked car outside on road a delivery lorry will also go on the grass ect. the verges are beautiful in early spring with snowdrops and wildflowers . the lane verges are being eroded by these vehicles. Once a small pull in has started it becomes wider and wider , resulting in passing places outside the houses. a one way system thru the lane would be an idea.
Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. Your request has been passed to our Traffic Management Team for further investigation. They will inspect the area, look at existing records and investigate the feasibility of the request. They may need to carry out new surveys and consult local Councils or other bodies. They will consider existing budgets and other requests before deciding on the best course of action. All cases vary but this work can often take 4 or more weeks to complete. Please contact us 0300 300 8049 if you would like more information on the progress of this report.

Thank you for contacting the Traffic Management team in relation to School Lane in Southill. One-Way systems often receive significant local opposition from residents who are impacted from the new road layout in the wider area and therefore there must be a strong justification, in terms of safety, to propose such a scheme. There have not been any reported road traffic incidents over the past few years along School Lane, which has a relatively low volume of traffic in comparison to more urban regions where one-way systems have been installed. We are not able to justify any changes to traffic flow to protect verges and therefore do not consider that changing this road to a One-Way system is appropriate. Thank you once again for your feedback.
State changed to: No further action
