Grass verge next to road outside 10 Redwood Glade

Reported via desktop in the Trees category anonymously at 16:13, Wed 17 November 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 363894.

Please see "Site Plan" ID: 2 and also "Sketch Plan" IDs: 2a and 2b (double leader).

This is a Sweet Chestnut tree located on public land near the property boundary of 10 Redwood Glade. We are requesting that the council carries out a crown cleaning and crown reduction of this tree in the direction of the house at 10 Redwood Glade by approximately 4m.

The reason is to protect the house from falling debris. The tree is overhanging the house and has been shedding branches, leaves and chestnuts onto the roof. These block the gutters and present a risk of damage to the roof tiles. Several tiles were damaged in May 2018 when a large branch fell on the roof, which caused a leak into the house and cost £110 to repair.

  • Thank you for your Highways report.
Upon inspecting this tree, for the second time this year, I did not see any defect that led me to believe there will be a significant limb failure. We do not prune trees to alleviate nuisance (leaf/seed drop or overhanging branches). Landwoners are able to prune back branches to their property line, assuming this is completed in alignment with BS3998.

Thank you for reporting this matter,
