Corner of the green and astwick road

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 09:18, Tue 23 November 2021

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 364063.

This corner is extremely dangerous and gets lots of traffic including building site artic lorries. but the main problem is speeding round this corner, cars take this corner too fast and it is also used as a rat run after pub closing times so we get our fair share of dangerous drivers.

My hedge at 1 astwick road has for the 3rd time in 6 years been destroyed by a car taking the corner too fast and ploughing into the hedge. it has destroyed my fence and hedge and just missing our car.

If there were pedestrians (this is a school run route, so lots of young children on the way to st marys school) then we would be looking at serious injuries or fatalities.

Road calming measures need to be addressed for this corner. it is something which has been flagged numerous times to the council and nothing has been done to date and it continues to be a very dangerous corner.

  • Thank you for contacting the Traffic Management team in relation to Astwick Road/The Green junction. We are in the process of assessing potential junction improvements in this location and are currently looking at detailed designs for the junction. Once a design has been finalised, we would then need to secure funding to progress the scheme into the construction phase. I will contact you directly when more is known regarding timescales for this scheme. Thank you once again for your feedback.
