Thank you for contacting us to request a new parking restriction.
There may not be a simple solution to a parking issue as the demand for on-street parking often outweighs the available road space. The number of licensed vehicles has, for the most part, steadily increased since the Second World War, with nearly 40 million registered vehicles owned in the UK. Approximately a quarter of these are estimated to be parked on the street overnight. It is hoped that in the long term there will be a reduction in car dependency but in the short term, car ownership is unlikely to significantly reduce.
We have learnt that reacting to one parking concern can often move an issue to another street. With this in mind, Central Bedfordshire Council review new parking restriction requests on an annual basis, identifying any trends and looking at the wider area before any changes are considered. Your request will be kept on file until the annual review has taken place.
Restrictions will only be introduced where there is proven road safety issue, the issue is not likely to be moved to another area and, if the proposals are supported by local Ward Councillors and Town/Parish Councils.State changed to: No further action
