Central Dunstable - new traffic lanes chaos

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 21:51, Saturday 16 April 2022

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 370577.

Approach to the lights from Chuch Street with new lanes and traffic light sequencing causing big issues. Right hand lane - Queues of .cars are getting stuck behind those cars wanting to turn right or go straight ahead. This causes big tail backs on Church Street, and the cars that want to turn left cannot move into the Left turn lane. as it is blocked due to the narrow entry into the 2 lanes. Then cars in the right hand lane that want to go straight on, to West Street, (that are stuck behind cars turning right), switch lanes in frustration into the left turn only lane to go straight ahead, without looking for cars approaching - Very dangerous! Total mayhem in all directions. Please give this ridiculous system your urgent attention.

  • Nothing has changed, it.s very dangerous. Drivers are still switching lanes when stuck behind cars waiting to turn. It is impossible to negotiate at busy times. Ridiculous system in place. The council had not thought this through at all.
