Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 373761.
The roots to this tree are already causing damage to the underground drainage system and the likelihood is that there is also damage to the electricity and gas cables.
There is also a serious Health & Safety risk to pedestrians using the footpath having to navigate a very narrow path between the exposed roots and fence line and will create difficulty for those using pushchairs and wheelchair use.
Eventually as the tree and roots enlarge the public footpath will be completely blocked to pedestrians.
To prevent further damage, costs, and to address the health and safety risk, urgent action is needed.
There are a considerable number of trees in Clifton Road on both sides of the highway. All of these have been pollarded in the past in order to reduce their size.
There is no evidence that any routine maintenance has been done for decades on the subject tree which is now considerable in size. There is no evidence that this is subject to a TPO.
