Roundabout opposite Priory Gate and Chicksands woods
Reported via mobile in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 21:03, Sun 28 August 2022
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 375181.
As with other suggestion for this roundabout. All entries to the roundabout need white arrows at the junctions as several accidents and near misses occur on a daily basis, as road users do not know what lane they should be in which causes dangerous manoeuvre’s and constant sounding of car and lorry horns. This has been an issue for over 20 years.

According to the Highway Code when there are 2 lanes on the approach to a roundabout and there are no road markings the left hand lane should be for turn left and straight on and the right hand lane for turning right however this is not observed by road users on this roundabout A507/A600. Road markings would help to eliminate vehicles mounting the roundabout, crashes, near misses, vehicles crashing into nearby property and constant sounding of horns.

We have reviewed your report, the existing layout of the junction and the accident history at the roundabout in question. We have a limited budget and have to prioritise our funds to tackle the most serious identified safety issues in Central Bedfordshire. According to our records, only one minor reported incident has occurred and we do not consider that further interventions are required at this time.
Further to this, the installation of additional road markings (i.e. arrow lane markings) at this particular junction is likely to reduce flexibility/capacity at the junction, potentially causing increased congestion at peak times, which could lead to an increase in traffic incidents.
State changed to: No further action
