Public footpath which runs from millwright way to Astwood drive
Reported via mobile in the Pavement and Cycle path category anonymously at 17:36, Tue 6 September 2022
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 375541.
On several occasions I have had to slam on my brakes when driving past this public footpath, which goes from MILLWRIGHT WAY accross ASTWOOD DRIVE and continues to a new estate, PANKHURST ROAD. Cyclists - usually young people, don't slow down or look as they cross Astwood drive, as they continue on the path on the opposing side of the road. It is Dangerous and requires barriers, so that cyclists and pedestrians come to a stop before crossing the road. It will only be a matter of time before there is a collision, if barriers are not installed on either side of the road (where the road intersects the footpath). Many Thanks.

The Traffic Management team have contacted Sustainable Transport who promote cycling in Central Bedfordshire for consideration of the issue raised.
Please bear in mind it is unlikely that we would install a guard rail to act as a barrier to cyclists, however once we have recieved a reply we shall provide a response to this request.
Unnecessary guardrails can have a negative impact on the aesthetics of a street and can restrict access for pedestrians who need more space. We have a policy in place to achieve consistency in the implementation of pedestrian guardrails, taking into consideration national standards and guidance (LTN 2/09 Pedestrian Guardrailing)

Sustainable Transport have confirmed that as part of the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (Central Government initiative asking local authorities to produce a long-term strategic approach for walking/cycling infrastructure) we will consider schemes that afford cyclists and pedestrians priority when crossing a carriageway. This will be a standard approach on all promoted pedestrian and cycle routes.
State changed to: No further action
