Reported via desktop in the Street Lights category anonymously at 17:35, Fri 11 November 2022
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 378105x.
Streetlight was damaged Monday 7th November 2022 and taken away Tuesday 8th November due to the pole being at a dangerous angle.Since then the hole has been filled, however the streetlight has not yet been replaced. This streetlight needs replacing without further delay due to the corner being in darkness resulting in a danger to pedestrians and motorists. How long will it be for a replacement to be erected?

Since reporting this issue on 11th November 2022 the streetlight has not been replaced. Why? Please provide an update when the council intends to complete the work. As previously explained the area is in darkness and a safety issue to both pedestrians and motorists.

Since Central Bedfordshire Council provided an update on 2nd December 2022 the lamppost has not been replaced. Why? Despite speaking to the Leader of Central Bedfordshire Council and Westoning Local Parish Councillor the week before Christmas to make him aware still nothing has been done. It shouldn.t be that difficult for the relevant department to arrange and manage the replacement in a timely manner. 3 months and waiting is a disgrace. The residents of Tythe Barn Close await a reply and the replacement of the lamppost without further delay.

I last asked for progress on 20th January 2023. As expected nothing has happened to date. Central Bedfordshire Council ask we use this web site to report problems for reporting street work issues etc. To me this web site is purely cosmetic. To date absolutely nothing has been done. The Council only responded once from a direct telephone call to the street works department. I have continually requested information via this site to no avail. Neighbours have telephoned streetworks speaking directly to members of the help desk team. They find them very polite and understanding to the problem. However ineffective as they are unable to speak directly with the relevant team concerned. Telephone calls are not picked by the relevant department or Manager and get ignored this is unsatisfactory. Each and every occasion a call has been made the help desk operator requests an email address to allow you to supply information. A bit like this website the Council never responds. Surely its not difficult to inform residents when a scheduled date is available for the work to be undertaken. So I ask again please respond and inform the residents of Tythe Barn Close either by email or this website when the lamppost will be replaced. We await a response.

I have telephoned street works 11.55am 28/02/2023 requesting an update. After holding on with the operator the call went dead and asked for a survey to be completed. So still no update to the questions raised. Will you therefore provide information when this streetlight will be replaced. The Council can plant trees in the village so why not replace this streetlight? Somebody will eventually have an accident and should consider legal action on health and safety grounds The Council have been made away of the problem since 11/11/2022 and fail to resolve within a reasonable time frame.

Following my telephone conversation on 7th March the streetlight team were asked to give an update. See comments above posted by Central Bedfordshire Council. This still hasn.t happened? I ask again when will lamp number 3 in Tythe Barn Close be replaced. The service provided by Central Bedfordshire street light team is a disgrace. Management should be fully accountable to all issues raised and respond accordingly. When submitting this years Council Tax bills it was stated in the past year 1,000 streetlights have been replaced calculates at 4 per working day. Surely within a period of 5 months you can schedule to replace the streetlight in Tythe Barn Close. We all have to pay our Council Tax and expect to receive the services being paid for. Streetlights are what we expect for health and safety and security reasons. If your streetlight management team are not capable of scheduling the work and carrying out replacements the department needs to be reorganised with staff who can. The residents of Tythe Barn Close await a date to be communicated when you intend to complete the replacement.

At last the Council have sent a team of engineers to replace missing lamp post number 3 from November 2022. It taken 6 months for you to schedule this work. The replacement lamp post has been erected within 1 1/2 hours. An absolute disgrace for the delay.

Contractors erected new lamp post yesterday morning. Whilst Tythe Barn Close now has a new lamp post the actual lighting system is not working. Therefore would you now send out another engineer to ensure the light comes on at dusk as it is meant to do. Obviously the 2 contractors who erected and completed the wiring yesterday failed to ensure before leaving the light would actually come on when dark. How long do we have to wait for this fault to be resolved?

Unfortunately since my update on 5th June 2023 the street light outside number 19 Tythe Barn Close is only working intermittently. (Street Light number 3) Some nights it comes on and others it hasn.t. Therefore would you please send out an engineer to look at the problem ensuring it comes on every evening without fail.

Since last reporting on 3rd July 2023 street light number 3 in Tythe Barn Close has not been repaired. 10 days has now past since reporting this light only comes on intermittently. During the past 10 days the light has only come on 3 times. The Council request we use Fix my Street to report issues. I have followed this procedure since first reporting the problem on 11th November 2022. The streetlight is still not working satisfactorily for the residents of Tythe Barn Close. It.s obvious the Council contracts team fail to manage the company awarded a contract for replacement and maintenance of street lights in the Central Bedfordshire area. I.m sure if we failed to pay our Council Tax promptly or with held part payment your revenue department would press for payment workout delay. So why don.t you manage the streetlights contract in the same way. Therefore will you PLEASE make sure street light number 3 is looked at without further delay and repaired SATISFACTORILY to ensure that it comes on each and every evening. I shouldn.t have to CONSTANTLY post comments on this web site advising you to NOTHING has been done to ensure we have a light that works 365 days of the year.

In 2022 you raised a FixMyStreet request to Central Bedfordshire. We are contacting you to notify you that your report has been closed from our system. We have recently begun our partnership with a new Highways contractor and as a result we need to close previous cases that were outstanding with the previous contractor, this is part of an ongoing administrative process.
If the issue is outstanding and you believe it to be an emergency, such as exposed electrical wires, please contact us on 0300 300 8049.
If you see issues on the highways network, please continue to report these directly through FixMyStreet.
Many thanks,
Central Bedfordshire CouncilState changed to: no further action
