Kirby Road, LU6 3JH

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 14:29, Tue 29 August 2023

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 393850.

I am following up on this again, as the road was resurfaced a month or so ago and the double yellow lines have been covered over, not repainted.

My understanding of the Highway Code is that double yellow lines are a legal requirement 10 metres either side of junctions.

Cars are now parking right up to the edge of the junction as there is only around one metre of double yellow left, meaning that cars need to drive onto the wrong side of the road once again into the path of cars that are turning around a blind bend from West Street.

It is extremely dangerous and only a matter of time before somebody is involved in a head-on collision which would be the fault of CBC for not replacing the lines (as previously assured they would).

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
Due to current budget constraints, we are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.
