Outside of Number 1 High Banks

Reported via desktop in the Drains/Ditches Blocked category anonymously at 16:49, Tue 23 January 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 400624.

I previously reported: Council ref: 397879.

There is so much surface water on the pavement and road that it is dangerous when it freezes causing black ice, not only in High Banks but also Mill Road as the water flows down there too.

The pavement is also treacherous as it has slippery algae covering it.

I'm not sure when you came to inspect the problem. Last week it was more than evident what the problem was as the was sheet ice across the road which was inches high in places. This week the problem isn't as bad as there is not so much run off from the surrounding fields. The repairs made to the road surface are pointless as as soon as it freezes again the holes will re-appear. This is an ongoing problem, worse when it has been raining for some time.

  • The state of the road is horrendous. There is thick black ice covering the road and pavement, which is very dangerous. There was an accident in Mill Road in the week due to the water from High Banks adding to that on Mill Road and freezing.

  • We will have to look at this in the new fY. Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
We are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.
