Junction Slapton Road and Grovebury Turn

Reported via mobile in the Drains/Ditches Blocked category anonymously at 15:37, Monday 5 February 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 401256.

Ditch runs along Slapton Road between 2 properties each side of Grovebury Turn. The ditches are maintained by residents and recently CBC? has dug ‘trenches’ in the grass verges to allow water to drain into or out of the ditches. We believe the culvert under the road surface at Grovebury Turn is blocked and has been for years. This results in the ditch filling up and water overflowing diagonally across Slapton Road, leaving standing water like a pond covering half of the carriageway. It is very dangerous in cold weather as surface water on Slapton Road often freezes. The road is never gritted. It has been reported numerous times over the years. Over the years many vehicles travelling along Slapton Road down the hill from Slapton approaching Grovebury Turn “lose their vehicle” and end up hitting trees, ending up in the ditch, or both. People appear from nowhere to haul them out. The culvert needs unblocking which is beyond us. We don’t have the kind of equipment to do it. It then needs wire netting each side of the ditch to catch debris which will be easy for us to remove and keep the water way clear. Can someone finally deal with this please?
