A6 going towards Bedford from Deadmans Hill to Haynes

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 11:37, Sun 18 February 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 402126.

There have been temporary 40mph signs on this stretch for over a year. I reported it a year ago and was told it's because roadworks were due to take place. That was a year ago. It's causing confusion and is dangerous as nobody appears to be adhering to the 40mph sign and those that do, like myself, are bibbed at and overtaken and it is extremely dangerous. There is no end of 40mph sign either so it's a guessing game. Absolutely ridiculous. The road dips badly along this stretch which I assume the 40mph signs are there but you either need to take them away, repair the road or put more significant signs up saying "danger" if you want people to stick to the 40mph as it's totally confusing now and I don't feel safe driving that stretch of road anymore.

  • Thank you for your Highways report.
The 40mph signs are up due to the subsidence on the road and will need to remain up until the road is resurfaced.
