Sandy Lane from Plantation Rd heading east for 250 metres

Reported via iOS in the Public Rights of way category anonymously at 11:36, Mon 22 July 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6259694.

The right of way is not shown as a road on fixmystreet and is a single track road with no passing places. We are plagued with cars driving too fast for the location generally by golf club users and there have been numerous near misses and a child falling off there bike into a fence by a speeding vehicle. Please arrange an inspection as the HSE require a report from yourselves Kind Regards Tom Henrick 07970479007 02525376736 PS I have left phone messages inc last week but no response as yet

Updates

  • No request has been received in the ROW team for a report from the HSE. I will go out and take a look at the lane, and the traffic, and contact the golf club if necessary.

    State changed to: Investigating

  • Good afternoon, When I spoke to HSE they asked if I had a report from yourselves hence my request. Also the verges have been cut and the shrubs supplied by the woodland trust hacked despite it being the nesting season along the fence on the right hand side. Was this CBCs contractor or a third party

  • Hello again The main concern is that at weekends when the right of way is at its busiest as it is part of the Ouzel Meander, the golf club use it as an overflow car park with often 40 cars parked on the practise ground. Sadly some drivers drive far too fast and a serous incident is inevitable. When cars meet there is no passing areas other than trespassing on neighbours land. The golf club refuse to meet to discuss a sensible solution and have refused to supply their risk assessment despite the fact they have signage guiding people to Sandy Lane. The pedestrian movements per day often exceed 100 often with young children on scooters bikes and often accompanied by dogs. There is an advisory speed limit of 5mph but this is routinely ignored. Many of the speeders are NOT members of the golf club but guests and parents of junior golfers who obviously do not receive the occasional reminder that the golf club only send out to members

  • If the HSE require a report, they can request it from me: francine.rainbow@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk I have had a look on google streetview, the bridleway does not appear to be wide enough to accommodate parked cars, please can you explain whereabouts they are parking? I will endeavour to take a look on Thursday when I am in the area, however I am unable to do a site visit at the weekend when it is busiest, as I actually live 40 miles from Leighton Buzzard.
