Temporary Bridge repairs over River ouzel Old Linslade Rd
Reported via desktop in the Bridges category anonymously at 19:27, Thursday 8 August 2024
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 410137.
The plastic barrier repair to the Bridge is already giving way. It is a bending towards the river presumably where it has been hit and a light knocked off. It needs a solid brick wall repair attached to the ground unlike the loose plastic barriers. It would be nice if - unlike last time - the repair includes removing damaged barriers from the water. Last time one was left half in the river. It's still there.

Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
Due to current budget constraints, we are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspxAfter inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.

Customer has called in about this repair again, her husband had been informed someone had hit the bridge 2 years agoa dn his insurance paid out to local authority to repair the bridge. It has been like this for more than 2 years and only some cable ties have been put on this and it is very urgent, she sadi it is lethal and a matter of time before someone has an accident here. Just beyond they have isntalled some crash barriers on a straight road not needed and full of water, the bridge is urgent and very angry, customer is writing to local newspaper as H & S inspectors.

Subject: Old Linslade Road - CRN412681 AND 410137Good Afternoon
I added some notes to CRN 410137 today after M** H****** called in to the contact centre. She was expressing how this bridge is extremely dangerous and she advised there is an accident waiting to happen, some cable ties have been put around the area she said but is very concerned the bridge has been in this way for more than 2 years. She said insurance had paid out to local authority to get this fixed but it has never happened.
She said this is a Health & Safety concern and needs to be dealt with properly.
I advised I would send a separate message with her details to the principal officer as she wishes to discuss this further. her details are as follows:

The emergency team have put more safety barriers in place after one fell during the bad weather weve recently had. This is due to be permenantly repaired in the next couple of months. Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
We already have maintenance work planned in for this area and the issue will be resolved as part of this work. We are, unfortunately, unable to provide you with a timescale for this to be completed, however, all repairs are prioritised using an assessment matrix in line with our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP).We will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of the NMMP which can be found online - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx
Many thanks,
