Hitchin Road between 197 and the cemetery

Reported via mobile in the Pavement and Cycle path category anonymously at 20:06, Fri 16 August 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 410407.

The pavement along the side of the road is completely overgrown so that you can no longer see where the pathway actually is. This means people coming from the dwellings along Hitchin Road are having to walk in the road in a derestricted area. I believe it was part of the conditions of the traveller site that there would be a footpath along there. This has been like this for at least the last 2 years and has been previously reported to the town council. It’s quite dangerous having people walking in the road at the same time as motorists are speeding past!

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
We already have maintenance work planned in for this area and the issue will be resolved as part of this work. We are, unfortunately, unable to provide you with a timescale for this to be completed, however, all repairs are prioritised using an assessment matrix in line with our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP). We will be looking to flail this particualr section over the coming months.

We will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of the NMMP which can be found online - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways
