Request for 'Keep Clear' Road Marking at Junction of Augustus Road and A5

Reported via iOS in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 21:48, Sun 15 September 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 411426.

I am writing to formally request that a ‘Keep Clear’ road marking be implemented at the junction of Augustus Road (LU7 9NS) and the A5 main road in Hockliffe. As a resident of Augustus Road, I and other residents have consistently encountered significant challenges and safety risks when attempting to turn right onto the A5.

There have been multiple occasions where I and others have had near-miss collisions due to the absence of a ‘keep clear’ sign when turning right. It is often difficult to find a safe gap in the constant flow of traffic from the left heading towards Hockliffe. This frequently leaves vehicles in a precarious and dangerous position, waiting in the middle of the road for an opportunity to merge whilst there is or could be oncoming traffic from the right.

In comparison, other nearby side roads, such as White Horse Close and Blackbirds, which are only metres away, all have ‘Keep Clear’ markings to enable vehicles to safely enter and exit (see attached photo). The absence of such road markings at the Augustus Road junction exacerbates the risk of accidents and presents a serious road safety concern.

I strongly urge you to consider adding a ‘Keep Clear’ marking at this junction as a matter of priority. This measure would significantly improve safety for residents and reduce the risk of a serious accident in the future.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and I trust this request will be considered with the seriousness it warrants.
