A507 Verge. Behind 4b,5,6,7,8,9 Hedley Way
Reported via desktop in the Drains/Ditches Blocked category anonymously at 21:51, Thursday 26 September 2024
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 412221.
It was first reported in 2022 as after the trees were felled (against resident's wishes) that the conduit was never sorted and therefore surface water could not drain into the gully located further down the verge towards the Clophill Roundabout.
Therefore, on Monday 23rd September, after heavy rainfall on Sunday 22nd, the drains in Hedley Way did not cope with the amount of surface water. This water spread into the gardens of the houses stated above and could not escape as a result of there being no conduit on the verge. We were told that this work would be carried out upon competion of the felling of the trees in January 2022. We believe our gardens would not have held this water if the conduit (which used to be well maintained) was there, saving us the risk of our homes being flooded out. You can see from one of the photos that the conduit no longer exists.

Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. We plan to inspect the site during the next instance of significant rainfall (that takes place during working hours) and decide on the best course of action.
This weeks flooding and overflowing gullies are largely the result of extreme weather and the drainage systems all exceeding capacity, rather the drains themselves being blocked. If your road is flooded, please call the emergency hotline number.
We will continue to monitor the area in a more moderate amount of rainfall and assess at that stage if drains are blocked and if remedial works are required.State changed to: In progress
