3-5 Verne Drive Anpthill

Reported via iOS in the Surface water on Highway category anonymously at 15:06, Tuesday 1 October 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 412528.

As per previous report. These drains need clearing and upgrading. If the lake remains, our hallway is at risk and it is the responsibility of highways to manage water dispersal. This may not be a priority #1 given the situation, but the cause is inaction when the weather was kinder. Please get this fixed ASAP. It is a priority just not the top one … are the council liable for damage for failure to resolve the problem?

  • State changed to: Investigating

  • Thank you for contacting us with information relating to a Highways issue. We plan to inspect the site during the next instance of significant rainfall (that takes place during working hours) and decide on the best course of action.
This week’s flooding and overflowing gullies are largely the result of extreme weather and the drainage systems all exceeding capacity, rather the drains themselves being blocked. If your road is flooded, please call the emergency hotline number.
We will continue to monitor the area in a more moderate amount of rainfall and assess at that stage if drains are blocked and if remedial works are required

    State changed to: In progress

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
Due to current budget constraints, we are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways
