Hitchin Road, Fairfield between Eliot Way and Dickens Bouelvard roundabouts
Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 14:56, Mon 28 October 2024
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 413797.
We have had some residents expressing safety concerns about cars overtaking along Hitchin Road in Fairfield between the Dickens Boulevard roundabout and the Eliot Way roundabout. There used to be a broken white line in the centre of Hitchin Road but this is no longer there.
I am therefore writing to ask that this line is repainted and if possible it is replaced with double white lines to stop people overtaking at all.
Please can you advise what action you are able to take.

Due to current budget constraints, we are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspxAfter inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.
Many thanks,
