49 The Hermitage, Arlesey. Large tree on public footpath/alleyway by metal fence

Reported via mobile in the Trees category anonymously at 12:03, Tue 10 December 2024

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 415583.

I’ve reported the tree growing into our house a few times in the last two years. The last request was closed in early 2024. The tree is now growing into the house and branches hit the front roof and window in high winds. Should I get it fixed and send a bill and our home insurance advised recording these reports should any damage occur. Have done some maintenance to enable opening the window but it is two big too trim back.

Updates

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Central Bedfordshire Council at 12:03, Tue 10 December 2024

  • Hi, thanks for your report. Although CBC Highways have carried out some work to this tree in the past (I can't recall the year), we have since discovered that it is sat within unadopted land. CBC have adopted the width of the surfaced footway, however the adjacent verges remain unadopted and appear to still be under the ownership of the property developers. While we can't pass on exact ownership information, we can advise that the resident use Land Registry to track down the owner and make contact with them.

State changed to: not the council's responsibility
