A6 towards Wilstead before Houghton Conquest turn

Reported via mobile in the Road Potholes category anonymously at 12:40, Saturday 18 January 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 417247.

There are potholes plus an uneven road surface which makes it very dangerous to dodge and driving into these causes gradual vehicle damage. This has been reported before and there was fixed last February but the problem has reappeared.

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.

  • Customer email- not happy with the update-escalated to PO and HLT
I reported two potholes plus an uneven road surface on the A6 towards Wilstead before the Houghton Conquest turn via the fixmystreet app and you have updated me there that you consider that not a priority and that I should rest assured that you will continue to monitor it in your future inspections.
I'm sorry but that's not good enough. Driving over that part of the road causes gradual tyre and vehicle damage. That stretch of the A6 and on the opposite side towards Clophill is in a deteriorating state. Do you plan to do something about it apart from inspecting it ?

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.

We have inspected this location and determined that there is no immediate work required at this time.
However larger scale maintenance work is being planned in for this area later on in the year and the issue will be resolved as part of this work. We are, unfortunately, unable to provide you with an exact timescale for this to be completed, however, all repairs are prioritised using an assessment matrix in line with our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP).

We will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of the NMMP which can be found online - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways
