Thank you for letting us know about this matter. We have contacted the landowner about this to understand why a gate has been installed. Gates across public rights of way are covered by Section 147 of the Highways Act: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ ukpga/ 1980/ 66/ section/ 147 . They must be authorised by the Council and can only be authorised for specific purposes. There are also provisions for barriers under Section 66 of the Act https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ ukpga/ 1980/ 66/ section/ 66 but this usually relates to urban locations where guardrails are necessary where paths exit onto busy roads near schools

The landowner has been contacted and informed the gate is an obstruction. A gap has been provided to the side. We will continue to monitor this going forward.
