Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7194080.
There are several potholes around this location heading towards the nominated parking for Sandy Smith Nature Reserve. I use it on a bicycle but I believe it’s actually a bridleway. The location doesn’t come up on FixMyStreet but I hope the Council maintains the road as it’s a bridleway. The potholes have deteriorated over the last 2 winters. Cars drive through them and seem to wash the stones out which then build up around the holes making them worse.

Thank you for your communication regarding potholes. The route is a complicated picture as part of this route is highway and part of it bridleway, but I can look into the bridleway section. Central Bedfordshire Council is in a challenging position financially which means budgets have been reduced this year and the situation is not likely to improve for next financial year. There is currently a freeze on all works except emergencies until the end of this financial year. With this in mind all I can offer is to bring a load of aggregate in our Land Rover and spade them into the potholes. This works for a time if the volume of vehicular traffic is low, but as you rightly say in circumstances where there’s more heavy traffic the aggregate will be thrown out of the holes. This is a dilemma in itself because it is not horse riding, cycling or walking (activities on the bridleway) that causes the deterioration of the path but cars. We have tried in the past to try and work with landowners and get them to take some responsibility for repairs but it is not always easy. The Land Registry shows that the route runs on Greensand Trust land so I will have a conversation with them about how we can work together to resolve the issue.

I can confirm that temporary repairs have been made to the track's surface - see photo. The Greensand Trust may be able to carry out further repairs around June this year.
