Between the new roundabout and the Totternhoe turn closer to LB end on left as heading from LB towards Dunstable

Reported via mobile in the Road Surface category anonymously at 09:43, Sat 29 March 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 421269.

There is a deep but narrow crack in the road which goes along for many metres (10metres?) where the road surface has failed and it has been like this for months. It is very dangerous as a car tyre could be shredded by it or it could cause a motor cyclist to come off their bike as it is a similar width to a tyre. To safely drive along that stretch and to avoid it you have to drive very close to the road edge or in the middle of the road and that road is very dangerous due to overtaking facing traffic. It has been like this for months and on such a busy, main A road really needs to be sorted before it causes a terrible accident.

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
We already have maintenance work planned in for this area and the issue will be resolved as part of this work. We are, unfortunately, unable to provide you with a timescale for this to be completed, however, all repairs are prioritised using an assessment matrix in line with our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP).

We will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of the NMMP which can be found online - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways
