A6 between Sharpenhow Road and Swedish Cottages
Reported via desktop in the Public Rights of way category by Lauren Hewitt at 12:46, Mon 21 April 2025
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7460020.
The A6 is extremely busy yet pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders need to safely cross this road to get onto the bridleway for the Chiltern Way Trail and to access Warden Hills.
Each time i ride my horse i have to stand half way out when its safe to do so and then wait for the opposite side of the road to stop ... believe me not many people will stop. Each ride is a dice with death as to whether the drivers on the A6 are going to let me cross safely on my horse.
I think a pegasus crossing would be perfect for everyone to help us cross - or if that is to expensive at least a zebra crossing!
I fear this road will get even busier once the new theme park arrives in Bedford and i do wonder how i am to cross this road unless i leave at 5am and be back by 8am to skip the traffic!!
Please can you help us cross safely - i would love for my children to ride out with me but for the moment they are safer not doing so.

Hi. Thank you for your comments. I will pass these onto our highways colleagues who deal with highway improvement schemes and also the sustainable transport team. Unfortunately in some locations formalised crossings are not feasible on road design or road safety grounds and there is a limited budget for all Council works - particularly those relating to public rights of way. Information is on our webpages about highway proposals and local walking and cycling network plans https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ info/ 55/ transport_roads_and_parking
