Opposite a sign on wall RISKEX. Sheep Lane.

Reported via desktop in the Pavement and Cycle path category anonymously at 15:27, Saturday 17 May 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 423099.

Hello, this isn't a pothole, but I can't find an appropriate category on your list. A manhole cover has been lifted off a 6ft-deep inspection chamber in the verge beside the road, opposite a house with a sign name RISKEX on the garden wall. This is dangerous, because if anybody walks along the verge they are likely to fall into this 2ft-wide, concrete-lined hole, which is like a deep well. If that happened they could be severely injured. Or, if one of your workmen mows the verge in a sit-on vehicle, it is likely to tip at least one wheel down into the chamber and be left perching up in the air at a 45 degree angle. Shrubby growth and long grass is starting to hide this hole and it is a booby trap waiting to happen. You need to lift the cast iron cover back over it, to make it safe. It has been like this for at least a few weeks or longer. A workman must presumably have forgotten to replace the cover, which is lying beside the chamber..
