Church Road, Approaching Henlow coe School

Reported via desktop in the Obstructing visibility, footway, road, or sign category anonymously at 10:45, Fri 13 June 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 424103.

We operate the J76 school service to Henlow Church of England School using a double-decker bus.

Our drivers are increasingly at risk of being involved in an accident due to overhanging trees along the route. The situation is made worse by the volume of school traffic and limited space caused by the encroaching branches.

We urgently request that this is investigated and addressed as soon as possible to protect the safety of the schoolchildren, our drivers, nearby pedestrians, and parents or guardians in vehicles. There is a genuine risk of falling branches causing damage to our bus, to other property, or tragically, to a child walking along the adjacent footpath.

Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
We already have maintenance work planned in for this area and the issue will be resolved as part of this work. We are, unfortunately, unable to provide you with a timescale for this to be completed, however, all repairs are prioritised using an assessment matrix in line with our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP).

We will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of the NMMP which can be found online - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council Highways
