Current diversion in place in Shillington

Reported via desktop in the Obstructing visibility, footway, road, or sign category anonymously at 11:02, Fri 13 June 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 424105.

Please find attached photos showing a number of overhanging trees along the route our double-decker buses are now required to take due to the ongoing road closure in Shillington.

This diversion is being used regularly during peak times as we return to our Barton-le-Clay depot after dropping off students from Samuel Whitbread, Robert Bloomfield, and Henlow schools.

The current condition of the trees presents a serious risk of damage to our vehicles—particularly the upper-deck windows—and poses a potential safety hazard to our drivers and passengers.

We kindly request that this issue be addressed as a matter of urgency to prevent any further incidents as this will remain our regular route for the foreseeable future.

Updates

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Central Bedfordshire Council at 11:02, Fri 13 June 2025

  • As these trees are under private ownership, CBC will have to make contact with the landowner to request that the canopies are lifted to min 5.2m to ensure buses/high vehicles can clear without damage.

    Many thanks
