  • Update on your report:

After inspecting the reported issue, our officers have determined that this doesn't currently qualify as a priority for repair.

As per our policy, we are not obliged to prune back trees that overhang private property. We do not prune trees for seasonal issues such as sap drop, leaf drop, fruit fall, nor do we prune to allow additional light into property. Under common law, residents are entitled to prune back trees that overhang property, back to the boundary, however if this pruning results in the decline/death of the tree, we can pursue for damages.

With over 1,400km of road to maintain across Central Bedfordshire, we have to prioritise the work we do as detailed in our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP), which can be viewed on the following page of our website https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ info/ 55/ transport_roads_and_parking/ 592/ roads_strategies

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council - Highways
