Junction of London Road into Newlands Road
Reported via mobile in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 19:28, Thu 26 June 2025
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 424609.
Please see how the original road layout(from street view) which had clear give way markings. This new junction layout that has been created is a dangerous hazard for motorcyclists, cyclists and cars as no give way markings have been added. Please do not advise this is a duplicate problem as the original ticket ref 421362 has not been updated since 13 May. A highways officer needs to visit this junction before an accident happens.

Please advise if a visit has been carried out and when the give way markings/signage will be added. When I drove there today cars are unsure who has right of way when two cars are turning into newlands road from opposite directions. Please note there are give way signs at the farley hill into newlands road junction, so cannot understand why it has not been done here.

The changes to this junction have come forward as part of development works in the area. We are in the process of negotiating a Section 278 agreement here, which will allow the developer to carry out further works, with the plan being that this junction will eventually be signal controlled. The final checks are currently being carried out to allow this to progress.
The priorities at this junction are as per the highway code and the road is lined accordingly. Weve arranged for the developer to put up new road layout ahead signs as the old layout here had different priorities and there was a risk that driver behaviour was to blame for the issues that were being reported, with drivers assuming the old priorities remained rather than abide by the current road layout.
With regards to the give way lines in the photo provided on the report, as a result of the changes at this junction, cars should no longer give way when turning left from the south. Hence why they were removed.
Many thanks,
Central Bedfordshire Council
