Eager.waltzes.passwords Behind old Segenhoe church to perimeter/ exit gate into field at rear of churchyard. Look left to see the broken gate/gatepost entering the spinney.

Reported via iOS in the Public Rights of way category anonymously at 00:00, Saturday 28 June 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7776692.

Broken gate and gatepost on john Bunyan trail. Very difficult and heavy to open. Looks like the cement at base of post has moved within the ground soil and starting to collapse, therefore can’t support the gate.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report. Stiles and gates across public rights of way are the landowner's responsibility rather than the Council's under Section 146 of the Highways Act 1980 - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ ukpga/ 1980/ 66/ section/ 146 - we will therefore let the landowner know. There only needs to be a gate if it is needed to control the movement of livestock from one field to another and so if there are no livestock present, the gate can be removed by the landowner and a gap left.
