The Highway to the front of 173 London Rd, Biggleswade SG18 8EJ

Reported via desktop in the Road Surface category anonymously at 17:06, Tuesday 1 July 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 424763.

The manhole in the Highway is showing signs of damage and has potholes to it perimeter and is in need of repair

Reported by you that it is the responsibility of Anglia Water.

As the manhole is in an adopted highway and the road is CBC's responsibility I would assume that this is actually CBC's responsibility

In the context of road adoption, Section 38 and Section 106 of the Highways Act 1980 relate to agreements by local authorities for the creation and maintenance Section 38 agreements involve the dedication of land as public highway, while Section 106 agreements deal with infrastructure improvements, including road works, within the existing highway network.

  • Update on your report:

After inspecting the reported issue, our officers have determined that this doesn't currently qualify as a priority for repair. We will continue to monitor the defect during future inspections and carry out works should it meet our intervention levels in future.

With over 1,400km of road to maintain across Central Bedfordshire, we have to prioritise the work we do as detailed in our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP), which can be viewed on the following page of our website https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ info/ 55/ transport_roads_and_parking/ 592/ roads_strategies

    Many thanks,
