Footpath between Church Road and New Road

Reported via desktop in the Pavement and Cycle path category by Graham Quick at 21:22, Friday 4 July 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 424937.

Surface is seriously broken. Where it was originally made of bricks many of these are broken, loose or no longer in place revealing numerous dangerous holes. Where there have been repairs this is using tarmac fo cover holes but this, too, is seriously cracked and broken with also numerous holes making much of the footpath difficult to safely walk and has caused many trips and falls. It is also almost impossible for people with prams or push chairs to safely navigate. Overhanging bushes are also causing much of the length of the alleyway to be very dark, impacting the potential identification of physical problems caused by the dangerous footing

  • Unfortunatley due to budget restrctions, we are having to prioritise defects based on immediate risk and need. I will look to repair this when we can. Thank you for submitting your Highways report.
We are having to prioritise repairs for defects that pose higher risks in accordance with our Network Management Maintenance Plan assessment criteria, the details of which can be found online http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ transport/ roads-strategies/ highways-asset-management.aspx

After inspecting the reported issue, our engineers have determined that this doesn't currently feature as a priority for repair. Rest assured, we'll continue to monitor the defect during future inspections. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your report.

    Many thanks,
