Reported via desktop in the Public Rights of way category anonymously at 10:17, Friday 11 July 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7861448.

The footpath is overgrown and impassable. Many brambles are also an issue and I have been cut on numerous occasions going up and down this path. This has gradually got worse over the past 3 months and is quite dangerous now. The path is also in a poor state on the 12% gradient area as it has worn away and is loose gravel.

Updates

  • Hi there. This path is on our annual public rights of way grass cutting contract as it forms part of the National Cycle Network Route 51. At the moment, however, we only have budget for 2 grass cuts of public rights of way a year and so the first cut will be carried out in July and the second in late August/September. In alot of areas, we are now increasingly dependant on volunteers to help us maintain the network - unfortunately there is not currently a group in Lidlington. https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ info/ 82/ countryside/ 433/ countryside_volunteers. Unfortunately, in terms of the surface, we have to apply for capital funding each year for a range of large bridges and surfacing works and these are added to the Highways Annual Plan. We would not be able to do anything for the next few years but we could consider it as a future years scheme. As a public bridleway, any surface would have to be suitable for all users, including horse-riders.
