  • Update on your report:

I can confirm that this location is included on our programme of works, and this issue will be addressed as part of those works.

An order to have the stakes & ties re-done/straightened is to be raised for completion within a month. The stakes themselves are large enough for the tree size, but the planting area is fairly small within the pit and we’re unsure exactly how deep it is, so it has come a bit loose. The work will re-stake the trees (ensuring they are firmly planted within the ground) and ensure they are tied high enough up the stake to prevent bending – there isn’t room within the pit for 2 stakes & a tie in between as we’ve done with our LATF verge planting trees.

We will also be requesting a formative prune of both trees as the growth begins at the base - this will shape the tree at an early stage to reduce the liklihood and frequency of needing to prune the tree as it matures. This will remove all the smaller branches at the bottom 1/3 of the tree, and careful pruning undertaken within the remaining canopy to shape the tree for the future.

    Many thanks,
    Central Bedfordshire Council - Highways
