Stanbridge road

Reported via iOS in the Pavement and Cycle path category by Michelle Townsend at 11:29, Sat 9 August 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 426190.

I commute every day from Roundel Drive to Dunstable for work, catching the 6:48 AM bus and returning at around 4:30 PM. Since the route change, the X3 now runs only once an hour, and the return bus at 4:30 PM no longer stops at Roundel Drive. I now have to get off at Apex Park and walk along Stanbridge Road to get home.

While this does not significantly add to my journey time, the walking route is extremely unsafe. There is no proper footpath along this section of Stanbridge Road—just a narrow track next to a stream, very close to fast-moving traffic. I have already nearly fallen into the stream on two occasions. It is especially concerning to think how dangerous this would be for anyone with mobility issues or using a wheelchair; the route would be completely inaccessible for them.

Given that more people from Roundel Drive and Billington Park are now using this path due to the reduced bus service, I believe it is becoming increasingly hazardous.

  • Update on your report:

After inspecting the reported issue, our officers have determined that this doesn't currently qualify as a priority for repair. We will continue to monitor the defect during future inspections and carry out works should it meet our intervention levels in future.

Any defects at intervention level will be repaired if footway deteriorates.

With over 1,400km of road to maintain across Central Bedfordshire, we have to prioritise the work we do as detailed in our Network Maintenance Management Plan (NMMP), which can be viewed on the following page of our website https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ info/ 55/ transport_roads_and_parking/ 592/ roads_strategies

    Many thanks,
